User Guide

QUICK START

First a video. Then your language.

01 — Open a subtitled video

You can start on YouTube. On other websites, click the Enable on this site button from the extension popup. When the page refreshes, YouDub Studio will appear.

02 — Choose your language and voice

Select your target language in the General tab. Browser voices are sufficient to get started; no API key is required. You can change the speaking voice from the player panel.

03 — Tap the headphones button

Click Start dubbing in the panel. Play, pause, or rewind; YouDub Studio follows the video. Closing the panel does not stop dubbing.

At your fingertips while watching

Position the panel

Drag the floating button. Its position is remembered per site. You can adjust its size in Appearance.

Balance the audio

Change video speed and original volume from the panel. Auto-sync adjusts dubbing speed to the video.

Return to video

Click outside the panel or press Esc. The close button does the same thing.

Customize subtitles

Toggle the translation line from the panel. Font, size, and position are in the Appearance tab.

Connect your own provider

Local models and providers running with your own API key are Pro features. You can check availability in the License tab.

  • Select a provider in Translation; open the get a key link if available.

  • Paste your key, select your model, and click Verify. This saves settings and sends a test request to the provider.

  • Select and save your voice provider in the Voice tab; then choose your voice from the panel on the video.

Provider usage is subject to your own account quotas and fees. Your API keys are stored only on this device and sent directly to your chosen provider.

Local translation with Ollama / LM Studio

Run your local server. In the Translation tab, select Custom endpoint (OpenAI-compatible), click find running local server, select your model, and save. If you run the server on the same device, this translation step stays on your device.

On-device voice with Supertonic

Download the model from the model section in the Voice tab or load the model folder from your disk. Then select Supertonic as the voice provider and save. Initial preparation time depends on your device speed.

When something goes wrong

Subtitles not found

Turn on the video's own subtitles once and try again. YouDub Studio works with subtitle segments it can access; it cannot read hardcoded text burned into the image and does not yet perform speech recognition on videos without subtitles. You may need to log in to the site or have access to the lesson.

No dubbing audio

Check that the video is playing and the tab is not muted. Choose another voice in the panel. If provider info indicates an issue, use the Verify button in the Voice tab; for local models, check the installation status.

Audio is too fast or lagging

Turn on auto-sync and set video speed to 1×. In a translation provider that supports it, you can enable duration fitting. Longer translations may still be sped up.

Panel is not visible

On other websites, check site permissions from the popup. If you recently installed or updated the extension, refresh the video page. On YouTube the button appears in the control bar, on other supported players it appears over the video.

Where is my data stored?

Preferences use Chrome's settings sync. API keys are stored on this device. When you choose a cloud provider, text to be processed is sent directly to that provider; video files are not uploaded to YouDub Studio servers. You can manage stored subtitles and audio in Archive.
